Once again our winter CSA is sold out!
Thanks to your word of mouth, we have sold 165 Winter CSA shares this year and we have begun the sales for our 2012 Season. We have 300 CSA shares for sale for 2012, and have already sold 16 in the last week. It is very important that we sell these shares ASAP to be best prepared for the new 2012 season. We will have cut off dates this year and will close our CSA to membership by those dates. Please pay strict attention to those cut off dates.
For the 2011 season we have been farming 6 production acres and look to do the same for 2012. We look forward to polishing up everything around our fields to make them ready for tours. The plan was to have tours and a farm dinner this year, but my helper Bill and I spent all of our time growing and harvesting the crops for our ever expanding CSA. We did not have any time to make things presentable for the tours or a dinner because we were so understaffed.
Heavy frosts have finally arrived and we have been busy removing all trellis sytems for our peppers, eggplant and tomatoes. We are constantly pulling up plastic mulch and drip irrigation lines, plus running a disc through our fields to prepare for winter. We have sown Annual Rye Grass into the land that we have resting for the winter and plan to sow a nice Vetch crop into that Rye in the late Winter/Early Spring. It is nice to see things slow down and come to a close for the season, but that does not mean that we can rest at all.
Thanks to a little financial support of dear friend and an NRCS project that has been spearheaded by our county extension agent Rick VanVrankin, we are one of a very few farmers in the state to be awarded a cost share contract for High Tunnels (unheated greenhouse). Our first tunnel came last Monday and we have been busy preparing the land for production since then. The tunnel will be errected tomorrow and I have great hopes that we will be setting transplants into it by this weekend.
